DC Workforce Initiative

The Hotel Association of Washington is committed to preparing and encouraging the District’s young people and adults for the good careers the hospitality industry has to offer.

Our biggest initiative is the Hospitality High School of Washington which so far has:
  • Graduated 210 students
  • Sent 160 students to college with financial assistance
  • Placed 50% of graduates in jobs in the hospitality industry either directly after high school or after college

In the area of adult Work Force opportunities, over the last few years the Hotel Association has worked on hotel training programs and job placement with the Washington Urban League, the D.C. Department of Employment Services and the University of District of Columbia.

Moving forward, HAWDC will focus on the many hotels opening in our City in the next few years particularly those with 51% First Source Hiring Agreements. Hotels such as: the Marriott Marquis Convention Center Hotel and the SW Waterfront Collaborative with three new hotels

The Hotel Association  also worked closely with the University of the District of Columbia, the Brookings Institution and all interested parties in the creation of a Community College in the District that includes a top notch hospitality program as a key component.
